'Blocked vs. Random Practice'

Just how beneficial can NET60SIX be when it comes to improving your game, and reducing your handicap? Research suggests that ‘blocked practice’, repeating the same move over and over again, has limited effectiveness on your game. ‘Random practice’ on the other hand, the name explains it all – playing different shots using a range of clubs in no particular order, is said to be much more effective as you are changing your swing, club and target.

‘Random practice’ is much more fitting with a golf course environment, when out on a course it is said that you will never make the same swing twice, even if you play the same hole the conditions will have changed, therefore requiring a slightly different shot. Golfers often make the mistake of going to the range and ‘ball-bashing’, using the same club until they feel comfortable. This is fine if you are only ever going to play on the driving range but on a golf course you would not be constantly using the same club or swing! At NET60SIX we have a range of courses that require the player to hit different clubs to different targets, therefore allowing you to play what is effectively a round of golf on the driving range.

‘Blocked practice’ can be useful if you are practicing daily, as it allows you to spend a set amount of time refining one skill. However, who really has time to spend more than one or two hours a week practising? Here at NET60SIX we believe quality of practice is better than quantity. If you practice for just one hour a week, random practice will give a dramatic improvement in a limited amount of time! Our courses are designed to be played in your own time, at your own pace!

"STRIKE WHILE THE IRON IS HOT"

Another challenge over! Last week we held the ‘Iron Man challenge’, one of our toughest challenges to date, not that that put many people off. Although the reason they took part could be due to the fact they wanted to win the £50 prize draw!

My colleagues and I were at Acanthus Golf centre for the launch of the competition, we got off to a slow start with very few willing to give it a go, some people not even wanting to hear about the challenge! The hardest part was getting the first person to have a go, once players saw someone else playing they fancied their chances! As they day progressed more and more people decided to enter, after all £2 isn’t much when there is £50 at stake!

The next day we headed off to our other Net60Six facility at Charnwood golf Centre, in Loughborough. The weather was good, sunny with a few clouds and little wind, perfect golf weather! One of the first people to play was Jake Croshaw, an 11 year old golf enthusiast with BIG talent! His score set the benchmark for the day; many tried and failed to beat his score! It looked as though he would be not only be the winner for his category, but for the entire day! However, his score was surpassed at the last minute. After Jakes promising performance we believe he has a great future in golf, and would just like to congratulate him on his great game play!

Driving Challenge

Firstly we would like to thank all those that took part in Our Driving Challenge last week, it made for a great event and we hope you enjoyed your Net60Six experience!

The challenge ran for a week between 10th- 17th July and after a slow start it turned out to be very successful, with many new people registering and taking part! There were prizes available to those scoring highest in their respective categories. Congratulations must go to John Burden & Paul McNeil at Acanthus and Vince Johnson & James hennig at Charnwood, all of whom won a sleeve of the Special Edition NET60SIX Pro V1’s!

We also held a free prize draw involving all those who registered over the week, offering the chance to win a brand new Taylor Made R11 driver worth over £300! The lucky winners were Joe Burden from Acanthus and Mark Felstead from Charnwood, well done to you both!

I heard about Net60Six through a work colleague, a few months later they couldn’t believe I still hadn't played the game that they claimed to be revolutionary. However I decided it was time I had a go, as after hearing so much about the game i wanted to try it out for myself.

I’ve played golf a few times before but the thought of spending 5 hours on a course has never appealed to me. Nonetheless, I have been down to the local range a few times but that’s as far as my golfing experience goes.

Net60Six is designed to fit into people’s busy schedules, 60 shots in 60 minutes and a score out of a 60 points. I registered online before turning up at the range, to save time. Once I arrived I was given an electronic tablet, golf balls and signed in, this meant I was ready to play within the space of 5 minutes. After choosing my game type and course I began to play, using the tablet (practice partner) as a guide to where I should be aiming and how many points I could potentially achieve. The app was very easy to use and understand, once your ball has landed you only need to touch the screen once to input your score for that shot. I found having the tablet hugely helpful, as on every shot you are offered information such as what club to use depending on the course you're are playing.

One of the main advantages of Net60Six was its ability to appeal to a range of standards varying from beginner through to the advance golfer. Whether it is for fun or serious, you can use it to develop your golfing method and once you become a member you will have a professional golfer on hand at all times to give you advice and help on how to improve your technique. For better players Net60Six allows players to refine and develop their skills by choosing a range of courses covering all levels of difficulty, while beginners like myself can simply enjoy being taught how to hit the ball correctly in a relaxed environment.

After playing I can honestly say that Net60six is revolutionary, it combines a driving range and an 18 hole course into one. Rather than just hitting balls aimlessly, Net60Six teaches you to improve you game, yet still only taking 1 hour to complete. I enjoyed my first game so much that I stayed and had another! and will definitely be back with friends.

Rufford Park Open Competition

Last week saw us hold an open competition at Rufford Park, it turned out to be a great day and thankfully the weather held up!

A large number of people entered the competition, fancying their chances against the other players in their category, all hoping to win the 1st prize of some Special Edition Titleist Pro V1 Golf Balls! Although everyone who entered played great there could only be one winner in each of the 5 categories. Congratulations to Richard Beastall, Martin Edwardson, Danny Cave and Alice Brentford, all of whom won their respective categories.

Due to a large number of Juniors being present on the day we also set up a ‘Junior Driving Challenge’, this involved fewer shots than the open course and provided an extra bit of fun to help round off the event! This allowed budding golfers the chance to practice their driving accuracy. Congratulations to Will Jordan who won the competition with Danny Cave coming a close second!

ACANTHUS - Golf in a curry!

On Monday 6th June, Net60Six installed its latest 'course' at The Acanthus Golf Centre in Leeds. Players at Acanthus can now play a 'round of golf' on the range by hitting to targets set out in front of them, with their scores recorded by 'in bay' scoring tablets. This can be done on an individual basis or more interestingly amongst friends and family who want to add that competitive element to their regular visits to the Acanthus range.

Euxton Park Opens Net60Six

On Thursday April 21st 2011, Exuton Park Golf Centre installed the first Net60Six 'course' on its range in Chorley, Lancashire.

Overnight Euxton became a new type of range with targets to test all parts of a golfer's game and a new way to play a game of golf on a range. Players can now turn up, take a Net60Six scoring 'tablet' - a playing partner - and play a new game on the range; whether practicing or playing matchplay with friends and family.
